The software arrived on a rainy Tuesday. Jonah flipped the sticker with a thumb, feeling for texture as if that might tell him where it had come from. He lived alone in a narrow fourth-floor walk-up that smelled faintly of old coffee and solder; the building’s radiator clanged like a distant train whenever the heater cycled.
