The movie picks up where the previous installment, "Batman Begins," left off. Batman (Christian Bale) has been protecting Gotham City from crime and corruption, but a new villain emerges in the form of the Joker (Heath Ledger). The Joker, also known as the Clown Prince of Crime, is a chaotic force of nature who seeks to destroy the very fabric of society.
