The story revolves around Victor Van Dort (voiced by Johnny Depp), a shy and awkward young man who works for a dental surgeon. Victor is engaged to be married to a woman named Victoria (voiced by Sarah Brightman), but he struggles with his own identity and the pressure of his upcoming wedding. During a pre-wedding rehearsal, Victor accidentally places a wedding ring on the finger of a deceased bride, Emily (voiced by Helena Bonham Carter), who was buried in the local cemetery.
