The story begins in the Central Park Zoo, where these four friends live a comfortable life. However, Marty, feeling suffocated by the zoo's confines, dreams of exploring the wild. On Marty's 10th birthday, he gets his chance when he escapes the zoo. Alex, Gloria, and Melman follow him, but soon they find themselves lost in the wilderness of Madagascar.
