The story takes place after the events of "The Avengers." Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) are still in a relationship, but their happiness is short-lived. A mysterious force, known as the Aether, threatens to destroy the universe. The Dark Elves, led by Malekith (Christopher Eccleston), seek to exploit the Aether's power to bring about darkness and chaos. Thor must team up with his brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston), the Warriors Three, and other allies to stop the Dark Elves and save the Nine Realms.
