"Avatar" is a science fiction epic film written and directed by James Cameron, released on December 18, 2009. The movie is set in the mid-22nd century on the planet Pandora, where a paraplegic marine named Jake Sully is sent to participate in a program that allows humans to control genetically engineered Na'vi bodies called "avatars." As Jake becomes immersed in the Na'vi culture, he finds himself torn between his loyalty to the human corporation and his growing connection to the indigenous inhabitants of Pandora.
