The story takes place in 1944, in a rural area of Spain. Ofelia, a 10-year-old girl, moves in with her newlywed mother and her stepfather, a ruthless military officer, Captain Vidal. While exploring the countryside, Ofelia stumbles upon a mysterious labyrinth, where she meets a creature known as the Faun, who claims to be the guardian of the labyrinth.
