The movie begins with Rango, a pet chameleon who lives a mundane life in a terrarium. One day, he is accidentally left behind by his owner and finds himself in the Mojave Desert, where he meets a motley group of animals, including a wise-cracking Road Runner and a tough-as-nails tortoise named Sadie. Rango soon discovers that the town of Dirt is in chaos, with a severe water shortage and a group of corrupt animals terrorizing the residents.
