The movie is set in the 1930s and revolves around Shankar (Sunny Deol), a Tamil Nadu-based freedom fighter who joins the Indian National Congress to fight against the British colonial rule. Shankar's family is torn apart when his father is killed by the British, and he sets out to avenge his death. Along the way, he meets a British officer's daughter, D. Madhavi (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), who becomes his love interest.
