As Elisa begins to form a bond with the creature, she learns that it is to be dissected and studied by a team of scientists, led by the ruthless Richard Strickland (played by Michael Shannon). Elisa, with the help of her co-worker Giles (played by Richard Jenkins) and the facility's janitor, Zelda (played by Octavia Spencer), hatches a plan to save the creature from certain death.
