The carrier’s priorities—customer experience, network management, upsell, regulatory compliance—become embedded in code. For customers this may be convenient: automatic APN configuration, SMS service integration, or remote troubleshooting. But it risks obscuring control. A “high quality” Etisalat-branded image might optimize performance on that operator’s network, but it can also remove advanced options that power users rely on: custom DNS, alternate routing, or local port forwarding. Good carrier firmware balances optimization with user agency.
